Before I head off for a bit of last-minute holiday shopping (I know, every year I tell myself I'll get it done in November and have everything wrapped the first week of December -- ha ha ha), I wanted to share this list of best ingredients for black hair with you. It's not a definitive list, but it's a good start for those of you who like to read the ingredients label when you're product shopping, which is just a good habit to get into.
Have a wonderful holiday, everyone!

Is there a way to combine some of these ingredients to make a homemade product? I also have another situation…for the past four years i’ve kept my hair cut in a bob, but for the past year i’ve been growing it out. It’s now 3-4 inches past my shoulders. I stopped getting relaxers, only use the flat iron once every two months, and the rest of the time i do roller and wrap sets. But i want my hair to get longer and thicker at an even faster pace. Do u have any suggestions for any products that can promote growth and thickness at a faster rate?
Hi Marissa,
Yes, you can definitely combine some of these ingredients to make your own hair product. I mix shea butter with a small amount of coconut oil and whip it to make it fluffier and easier to use. As for growing your hair faster, I know some women take vitamins or prenatal vitamins. I can’t speak to the effectiveness of that. Everyone’s hair has its own set growth rate; the average is 1/4 inch per month — some grows quicker, some slower, but that’s the average. Seeing more growth usually depends on getting trims only when needed and taking good care of your ends so that you don’t have to cut them all the time.
Thanks! Btw i love your blogs! I recently used that ORS Olive Oil Replinshing Conditioner and it worked great!
Sometimes silk hair wraps are also really good. Also always remember to deep condition your hair every week.
