Summer Style to the Rescue

It's that (hot) time of year again! With temperatures on the rise, you're probably looking for hairstyles that will keep you cool. The sun can be brutal on black hair, but there's one accessory you can use that not only adds some flair to your look but protects your hair at the same time.

Scarves come in and out of fashion. For some of us, they never go out of style. Instead of saving your silk or satin scarves exclusively for nighttime use, wear one for casual outings during the day. Fold a big scarf into a long rectangle and wear it in a wide headband style, knotted at the nape of your neck, letting the ends dangle down your back, like I'm doing here. What's great about using scarves as hair accessories is that they work with just about any hair length and style. A long, slicked back ponytail or medium length Afro both look cool with a pretty scarf.

Scarves are so easy to find and come in so many price points, once you get a collection going, you might find it hard to stop! Floral, paisley, dotted, designer - in tons of colors and patterns, you can jazz up a summer ensemble and protect your hair from the sun at the same time. Cool!
