When I say "hair challenges," I don't mean the kind that test your patience -- tangles that don't seem to go away, dandruff, etc. I mean joining a group, or even doing something alone, in order to meet a goal (in most cases, it might be length and/or health).
Challenges like protective style regimens and bun-wearing are pretty popular on a lot of hair forums. Members agree to wear their hair a certain way or two for a set period of time and at the end of this time, they can see how much their hair has grown and/or recovered from damage. It can be a fun and motivating way to take care of your hair. When you do it with other people, you have more accountability as well as a supportive network.
I've never officially taken part in a challenge, but I have worn certain styles in order to protect my hair's ends. Done correctly, it does work, but you really have to be committed. I know some women simply prefer more variety in their daily hairstyles and don't want to be tied down to the same old bun/chignon/braids for a while.
Have you ever taken part in a challenge like this? And did it work for you?
