Black Celebrity Hairstyles - Award Show Hair

By

It can be hard to locate specific hairstyle ideas on the Internet -- they're everywhere! So this helpful roundup is designed to save you some time. All of these celeb styles walked a red carpet at some point. Select based on the awards show, from the Grammys to the NAACP Awards, and everything in between!

Find Alicia Keys, Keri Hilson, Mary J. Blige and more in this gallery. There was plenty of blonde this year, but not all looks were long and straight. Rihanna rocked her signature short cut, while Alicia Keys sported a unique, braided updo that was gorgeous from all angles.

2. 2010 Grammy Awards

Locs, Afros and braided twists fit right in with down-to-there ponytails and loose curls. This was a diverse showing, with Ledisi standing out in cherry-red locs that commanded attention! Jennifer Hudson and Gabrielle Union were among those keeping it sleek and simple with straight ponytails, while Mary J. Blige and Beyonce rocked the blonde hair like nobody else. If you're looking for something different, this is the gallery for you.

3. NAACP Image Awards - 2010

The looks at this awards show were full of flavor. Celebrities who sported short hairdos include Tracy Higgins (head-hugging and face-framing), Raven-Symone (newly shorn in a big way), Wendy Raquel Robinson (stunning as always) and Eva Marcille (simply beautiful). Of course, if long is more your style, there's no shortage of lengthy tresses, as worn by Keshia Knight Pulliam, Mya and many more.

4. 2010 BET Awards

The BET Awards are generally more laid-back and the creative hairstyles showcased here definitely reflect that! From braids on Jada Pinkett-Smith to Esperanza Spalding's dramatically long Natural, hairdos ran the gamut from short to long, and from straight to curly. Other celebs who represented include TLC's Chili, Ashanti, Ciara, Tatyana Ali, Cassie and Queen Latifah.

5. Long Black Hairstyles - 2009 BET Awards

This was the year Cassie sported that one-sided shaved 'do that everyone was talking about. Other, less talked-about, but no less dramatic hairstyles were worn by Zoe Saldana, Keke Palmer and Amerie, to name a few. This gallery is all about long lengths, so if your hair is already lengthy, or you're looking for extension ideas, be sure to check this one out.

6. Short Black Hairstyles - 2009 BET Awards

On the flip side of the long styles from this year are the short, chic cuts. Amber Rose wore what was arguably the hottest cut at the show, but Keri Hilson sported blonde-fringed curly bangs that were far from ordinary. Other ladies who rocked short snips include Estelle, Elise Neal and Wendy Raquel Robinson.

7. The 2010 Soul Train Awards

It was mostly long and straight, but at least Kim Fields shook it up with a bright frohawk that matched her dress. Chrisette Michele played it different with a stylish head wrap and no one could ignore Faith Evans in her sizzling red hair color. Who else was there with noteworthy hair? Try Janelle Monae and Keyshia Cole, for starters.

8. 2011 Grammys

This was one of the best award show hair showcases ever! Who's your favorite? And how can you pick?

  • Esperanza Spalding's gigantic 'fro
  • Nicki Minaj channeling the Bride of Frankenstein
  • Carolyn Malachi's close-cropped cut
  • N'dambi and her fluffy frohawk
  • India.Arie keeping in simple but elegant

So many hairstyles, so little time.
