Who It's For
It's for anyone suffering from extremely dry and/or damaged hair. If you:
you need a product to combat the potentially damaging effects of chemicals and heat. You should already use a deep conditioning treatment at least once or twice a month. But let's face it: we don't always do what we know is best for our hair, either because we don't have the time, the tools or the know-how.
Consider this a wake-up call. If you want to avoid any more damage to your hair, use a deep conditioner religiously. You may need to use it once a week to begin with, and taper off to biweekly uses as your hair's health improves.
This medicated treatment is designed for anyone who needs immediate help for her tresses.
How to Use It
Apply after shampooing and towel drying. This product is very thick and dense, so you'll have to scoop it out of the jar. It goes on smoothly, however, and is easy to comb through. I used a paddle brush to work it through my hair and it glided through with ease. It instructs you to leave it on for at least one minute, but I left it on for several. It rinses clean, but because it's so dense, make sure the water runs clear to get all of it out. It left my hair feeling very soft and smooth.
Need a more intense treatment? Then apply, cover with a heating cap or hot towel, and leave it on for five to 15 minutes. If your hair is overprocessed or just needs extra help, you may need to use the product about once per week until your hair recovers. It comes in a generous 12-ounce tub, so you'll get plenty of uses out of it, and should be able to tell if it's working for you or not before you finish the product completely.
My hair isn't in bad shape, so I can't say I noticed a huge difference, but if your hair is dry, damaged and ailing, you may notice a dramatic change with regular use. It contains menthol, which offers a pleasant tingle to your scalp; if you suffer from a tight, itchy scalp, this product will make it feel better. It also contains good oils like avocado and almond, along with vitamins A and E. Does it contain any ingredients that may give you pause, like petrolatum and mineral oil? Yes. Because they're rinsed away, however, I can't say I saw any negative effects -- and my hair normally doesn't like either ingredient in a styling product.
As with any product, you need to use it more than once to see results; the more damaged your hair is, the more diligent you should be in order to improve its health. However, to avoid damage in the first place, it's wise to have a regimen in place, one that includes a deep conditioning treatment. Because this product is inexpensive and widely available, it's definitely worth trying out.
