Is your hair on the thicker side? Does it frizz easily? Finding products that control thick curls without weighing it down isn't always easy, but Curl Souffle manages to add definition while still allowing your tresses to "breathe."

Properties

Yummy ingredients like organic shea butter, jojoba seed oil and sunflower oil combined with botanical infused water make this curl styler a treat. It's suggested for "medium density" curly hair and if I had to categorize my hair, I guess that's close to how I'd describe it. My hair isn't fine or thin, but if yours is, you can probably still use this product in lighter doses, and get good results.

It's very thick and creamy, so you don't have to worry about dripping while using it. That makes it easy to apply and control during application. Plus, it smells delicious, with a light coconut scent to it.

How I Used It

The trick when using products for curly hair is often getting the right amount. This sometimes means experimenting, as I had to do here. The first time I tried the Souffle, I definitely didn't use enough, so on the second try, I increased the amount and got better results. The thicker your hair, the more you'll need to use to fully coat it.

I used it on top of the Cashmere Curls leave-in, but feel free to use the leave-in of your choice. I applied it section by section, being very generous in how much I used. I paddle brushed it through, then raked with my fingers to break the curls up. I let my hair air dry and my results were light and bouncy curls, my favorite kind. By the end of the day, my hair had "expanded" some, but I live in a humid climate and I'm used to that. My hair wasn't completely frizz-free, but again, I'm used to that. However, it definitely wasn't as frizzy as it would be with no products applied to it.

As suggested on the label, I also used a small amount of this to refresh my second-day curls in conjunction with the Quenched Curls Moisturizer. I didn't get great results, but my second-day hair is usually a bun or braids of some sort, simply because I never get the same results on day number two, unless I start completely over with a co-wash. For second-day curls, they weren't bad, just a little frizzier than on day one.

Would I Recommend It?

Yes, I recommend the Curl Souffle for anyone with medium to thick natural hair. If you like bouncy, soft curls that remain light throughout the day, this product delivers. It cuts down on frizz without creating a hard, crunchy helmet of hair. It might be too heavy for very fine hair (but Curls offers products for all textures, so you'll find something there for fine curls, too!). It defines tresses while moisturizing them at the same time, so if easy, carefree curls are what you're after, you should be able to achieve them with this. Want more defined ringlets? Twirl small sections of hair around your fingers when you use this product, and let your hair air dry.
